Scope
Platform bring-up, U-Boot and kernel, Chromium and Weston kiosk interface, SWUpdate over-the-air updates, system services, boot splash, reliability work
  1. The platform

We built it from the ground up and we reproduced it, which gave the instrument a baseline it could rely on.

  2. Boot and kernel

We integrated U-Boot and moved the platform to Linux 5.4.

  3. Kiosk interface

We integrated Chromium as the interface engine, and reworked the Weston compositor so the screen runs as a kiosk and not as a desktop.

  4. Over-the-air updates

We integrated SWUpdate as the update framework. It was the largest single piece of this engagement.

  5. System services

We added SQLite, NetworkManager and Node.js, and we tuned the CPU governor for performance.

  6. Boot splash

We integrated and refined it. We fixed its background, and we gave the application direct control of the progress bar.

  7. Reliability

We removed an unnecessary random number service, set a default touch calibration, and configured default static networking.
